Hello! New to this site, and scheduled for my first consult with the surgeon on Monday. I was wondering if there were any others in the Seattle or PNW area? Also, I was wondering if anyone knew of any in-person WLS meetups or support groups in the Seattle area that they would recommend? Thanks!

I absolutely LOVE my sleeve and have NO regrets at all. I know most say they wish they had done it sooner, but I think my timing is exactly when it needed to happen. I needed all the time it took before considering surgery to slowly cut down on the junk food and soda/diet soda to make changes necessary for me and my family. I and my ex husband are diabetics (I am no longer because of wls) so our kids have an even greater risk of being diabetic later in life. It was all worth it and as a result I had a lot less to lose as far as weight, and now an even more amazing chance to keep it off!

I am in Kent. Had surgery two weeks ago. I have searched for groups, but I wasn't very successful in finding one.

That's kinda a bummer. I was hoping to find a meetup, but no dice.

Awesome! Hopefully I'll get the green light on Monday from the surgeon saying I'm a good candidate for the sleeve/WLS

I'm in the Fife/Tacoma area. Dr. Srikanth has a monthly support group for his patients in Federal Way.

A group of are meeting in July in Federal Way if anyone would like to join! Most of us have been sleeved recently but any WLS at any stage would be welcome. There is an RNY and someone preop as well.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
