Yes I had a psychologist. Approval but I was not honest. They do not let you go to your own psychologist. For surgery approval. I do have a psychologist who does work with bariatric patents. He is well aware of my weight loss and gain in the last 4 years. He also knows I was on 500 calories for a year and I still ran and went to the gym 5 days a week over kill. Now that I had the surgery I am off all medications including blood pressure. I think I will do great on this. If I can get the Water down. If I eat like a normal person I get fat. Sadly.

Why in the world would you not be honest with your psychologist?

500 calories a day for someone who runs is INSANE. I cannot imagine any health professional condoning that.

Have you ever been assessed for anorexia and/or bulimia? I am not a mental health professional but from what you describe I wouldn't be surprised if some of that might be at play here.

There is no way I can force my self to drink when I'm full. I am not going to dump or stretch my pouch. That is not smart. I can eat or drink pick one. I know 3 meals a day is not enough I consider a pudding a meal. At this point I am not trying to not eat. I am honestly full he said not to force food into yourself or you will dump.

There is no way I can force my self to drink when I'm full. I am not going to dump or stretch my pouch. That is not smart. I can eat or drink pick one. I know 3 meals a day is not enough I consider a pudding a meal. At this point I am not trying to not eat. I am honestly full he said not to force food into yourself or you will dump.

First, if you were sleeved, you don't have a pouch. Did you have a bypass or sleeve?

Second, sipping liquids will not stretch anything (sleeve or pouch).

You are at risk of something much more serious by not getting in enough fluids and Protein.

I had the gastric bypass and yes you can stretch your pouch. If you are full you are full. And I am not stupid I know sleeves don't have a pouch they have some of the stomach removed. I have a tiny pouch I am way more restricted I will dump if I eat to much and sugar and to much carbs will also make me dump. The doctor said eating only 2 or 3 bites of food is normal. And that drinking or eating will stretch my pouch I will slowly be able to take in more. I do need to eat more Protein my diet is open for more food I just really love Soup.< /p>

I'm sure I'm going to get flamed for this but I just have to shake my head. The OP has been all over the boards opining on the virtues of RNY v. Sleeve, post op diets, etc. I hope people who read take your opinions with a grain of salt. In my honest opinion, which is being given by someone in their third year post op, you cannot survive on 500 calories a day post op. You will kill an already damaged metabolism. It should not take you 4 days to drink a Protein shake. I also have to shake my head at your surgeon who holds you up as the poster child for safe and effective weight loss on the "tortilla soup" diet.

I agree with Daisee and ISG. Bariatric surgery is to give you a reset so you can have a healthy relationship with food. I truly hope you figure this out!

I totally agree with the others who are obviously concerned over your diet. Eating a healthy Soup daily is not a problem; however, do you really expect to be able to eat this Soup anytime soon? The raw cabbage or slaw on top of the soup will not be able to be eaten for at least 3-4 months because it is raw, the tortilla strips are going to be a no-no, the chicken, the broth, and any cooked soft veggies are okay. You are being quite unrealistic in what this surgery was meant to do. Yes, you will lose weight, however you are not doing it in a healthy manner. I agree that 500 calories a day is not a sustainable amount of calories for the rest of your life, and you are hurting your metabolism by doing this. You need to have at least 70 grams of Protein (I was told 60-80 grams daily) every single day! It should not take you 4 days to drink an 11 oz Protein shake. If you sip that shake all day, you should be able to get at least 2 of them in per day. I totally understand the not feeling hungry (I am almost 5 weeks post op), but that doesn't mean you don't have to get in your fluids and Protein daily! You really have to find a way to do it. Without these two things you are not going to lose the weight you want. 17 lbs since surgery is great, but you will hit a wall and not understand why you can't get beyond that. Why did you go through all this if you are going to not follow the guidelines and rules.

I think most of us on here are getting upset about this because we truly care and although you think that what you are doing is healthy, and that all your doctors and specialists are totally onboard with all this, I have to call foul. Something is not right.

@@Ele marie, I am really concerned about you. I am half expecting you not to respond because you passed out from dehydration and are in the ER.

I would love it if you would check in and let us know how you are doing, AFTER you have consumed at least 4 oz of a Protein shake.

Although I am a year out and don't have your restriction, I was able to consume over 30 oz of Fluid in just the time we chatted yesterday. You can sip 4 oz in 15 minutes or so, no matter now swollen your pouch may be.

@@Ele marie, I also have another suggestion/request. First thing Monday morning, I would like to suggest that you call and make appointments with your NUT and psychologist. Print out this thread and show it to both of them and see what their opinion is. You do not have to believe anything we are trying to tell you, but I hope you would be willing to run it by your support team since you are so convinced that what you are doing is right for you.

Please drink your fluids! I have seen so many weight loss surgery patients literally end up in the emergency room because of dehydration, and it sounds like you’re drinking a small enough amount that you could do the same. Even if you don’t get dehydrated to the degree of having an emergency, drinking your fluids will help. It’ll help your recovery and your energy. It will even help you get your taste for Water back sooner!

@@Renkoss I would never eat the tortilla Soup before it is allowed. And yes you can have a corn tortilla it says so in my menu I can bake it and it don't even take a whole tortilla anyway. But I will likely just float raw cabbage on top. Yes I do need to work on the fluids and I really am trying. The 500 calories a day thing is what made me fat. I promise I will not do that again. I think I must express myself wrong on here. I do have Water with me at all times and I do try to push it. The shakes make me really full and if I drink that I likely won't eat please tell me if I should just drink them? I really want advice on what to do. But I can't force the food I really can't take the full feeling.

Inner surfer I think I had a dumping situation this weekend not sure but I felt fine after a hour. I am trying to drink more Water and I am doing OK. I drink as much as the Protein as I can. I still can't finish one but it's getting better. Thanks for your caring ways. I am hoping Water will taste good again I have found it is way better at room temperature. :)

Ele marie, I don't think at this point out from surgery you really should be "pushing" yourself to eat food if you are not ready for it. As a matter of fact, I am 5 weeks out today and I had only Protein shakes and a sugar free klondike bar rather than actual "food" simply because I've had a few situations this past weekend where I got a bit sick after eating. One was after eating a homemade meatball with a scoop of the ricotta bake (got it from a few members here for pureed phase of the diet). Now, not to brag, but I'm Italian and I get many compliments on my meatballs and sauce. I've eaten taco meat and it was fine, I figured a meatball would be okay if I cut it up in small pieces and chewed it up really really good. Well, I usually do not use 93% lean ground meat for meatballs, and I baked them rather than cooking them in the sauce like I usually do. The meatballs were a bit dense and a little tougher in texture than I'm used to. I think my body had a little bit of a difficult time digesting the meat. After a couple hours I felt better, and I didn't get sick as in vomiting, but still felt like crap nonetheless. So, 3 weeks out I think you could do more of the Protein Shakes, or even tasteless Protein powder added to anything you eat (especially soup) so you are getting in the necessary amount of Protein you need daily. That should be the most important thing you do every single day (along with the liquid amount). I also felt like I might not have been getting in my minimum of 60 grams of protein without doing at least one or two shakes a day, so I decided today I'd do the shakes, and to give my digestive system a bit of a break.

We are all rooting for you, so please don't get too frustrated. I think we all just want each other to succeed with little difficulty.

I am so glad to hear you are doing better getting in your fluids and Protein. I am concerned. I just don't want you to wind up in the hospital from something that can be avoided.

      Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
      1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

        All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

      I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
