I think you will be fine. Let some of your friends know that you might need their help on certain days. One think that I got that is helpful is the clasp thingy for picking things up when I drop them because it's hard to bend down lol it's silly but it's helpful.

Post op day 5:

Doing much better today, drain output is looking better and better everyday, I seem to be able to go longer without the pain meds, had really bad gas pains yesterday, hoping to have BM so I can feel even better. Follow up with surgeon tomorrow, might be removing the drain, just keep on working on my Protein intake and fluids... I realized that my sips have to be even smaller then what I was already thinking small... Definitely something to get used to.

Hi all,

It's been a week since surgery... I am doing much better, finally able to tolerate Water that is room temperature, before I was getting pain with anything that wasn't warm, which I am excited about because I can keep sipping and getting my Water intake up.

I got my drain and stitches out but still have the strips on. Went for a about 30-45 min walk with doggies and hubby today, got pretty tired so nap is definitely about to happen. That's one thing is that I don't have energy but it will come. So far I am tolerating everything l ( the only thing I had yesterday was Mexican tortilla broth) and I didn't even think about this before I had it, but had some discomfort after it and I think it's because it has pepper at some point... I am supposed to stay away from pepper for a while.

5.9 lbs down since surgery.... I will definitely be a slow loser but I will still to what I need to do and hopefully get there.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
