The day before being banding

Recommended Posts

Good day. I will be banded in the morning. I have been reading this site for a few weeks now. I think I got a little confused with the information from my doctor. Does anyone remember only eating Clear liquids 24 hours before surgery? I'm a little confused and I am starving. I know I can't eat anything after 12 midnight, but what about today?

Please help!!

Welcome! Every doctor has their own rules. Some have liquid diets for 3 or 4 weeks, others no diet at all. I would follow exactly what your doctor said. Mine had me on liquids (not clear) day before and nothing after midnight. Good Luck!

Hi Welcome..Like Betty said..every Dr. is different. My Dr. required no pre -op diet. He only does if your BMI is over 50 but mine wasn't. I would follow your Dr.'s instructions, he has them it for a reason....Good Luck tomorrow :)

It's one day and it will help you NOT have too much tummy troubles immediately following, maybe. I do hope you understand that immediately following, probably WEEKS, you'll have to adhere to liquids and soft foods too??? It's imperative that you follow these rules so that your band can get itself seated in scar tissue which helps to prevent slippage later. If you feel you can't do ONE day before surgery, how are you going to cope with weeks afterward?

Hey Newbandster,

Don't fret I'm to be banded 12-2-04 that's this thursday and I have been on clear liquids since 11-22-44 I have already lost 8 lbs. So see your Dr's request is not bad at all. I wish you luck and God's speedy recovery.

Hello New banster - I will also be on liquids before surgury for one day. I admit I have been trying to not overeat but thinking that tomorrow I will not be able to has my mind working overtime. So ...Yes, it sounds like it is what you remember. I also will be on liquids for one day and we'll be ok. Try some clear juices and it may take the edge off. Let me know how you are and lets keep in touch since we are so close together. I live in Santa Rosa, CA.

Melanie

Every doctor has different pre-op rules. I was banded with 6 other people, and some ate a huge meal the night before surgery. I was told to fast for 24 hours on clear liquids. One of the women didn't get any instructions, so she ate peanuts on the plane, which caused problems for her since she needed to get her labwork done before surgery - the peanuts did something to her blood sugar level, so she got tied up in the lab an extra hour. Good luck to you!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
