Yes, it is very common. You just had most of a major organ removed and your whole abdomen is extremely injured and traumatized! It takes most people 2-3 weeks to get pain-free. Some advice in the meantime:

--if you were prescribed pain meds, take them. Don't be a hero -- suffering will not help you heal faster.

--you may want to try an abdominal binder if you can get your hands on one.

--brace your abdomen with your arms or hands when you have to do something like bend down or twist to one side.

Good luck!

Thank you!! I do have on a binder and that certainly has helped. I brace my tummy and that seems good too. I have pain meds and they make me feel sick. All in all seems like I'm doing the right things must be just a matter of time

yes! and please do take the meds if you need them. the more you are able to (slowly) walk and rest, and sip Water the quicker it will pass.

welcome to the club! it's a wild ride.

If your pain meds are making you ill, then call your bariatric team and get a RX for a different one.

One pain pill does not fit all. :)

Recovery is so much faster and "easier" if you aren't fighting the pain. Work with it.

Feel better and don't forget to call.

Prayers going up...

@@sleeve.me I'm doing so much better! The pain was most intense the first week. I'm able to do everything I did pre op without pain. The largest incision -the one where your tummy comes out, is a bit sensitive but it's manageable!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
