lisamstevens 53 Posted May 13, 2016 Hello everyone, I just had wls- (sleeve)and it hurts to stand up, sit down, cough and sneeze. Is this common? If this is common when will it go away? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
Bufflehead 6,358 Posted May 13, 2016 Yes, it is very common. You just had most of a major organ removed and your whole abdomen is extremely injured and traumatized! It takes most people 2-3 weeks to get pain-free. Some advice in the meantime: --if you were prescribed pain meds, take them. Don't be a hero -- suffering will not help you heal faster. --you may want to try an abdominal binder if you can get your hands on one. --brace your abdomen with your arms or hands when you have to do something like bend down or twist to one side. Good luck!
lisamstevens 53 Posted May 13, 2016 Thank you!! I do have on a binder and that certainly has helped. I brace my tummy and that seems good too. I have pain meds and they make me feel sick. All in all seems like I'm doing the right things must be just a matter of time Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

One pain pill does not fit all. Recovery is so much faster and "easier" if you aren't fighting the pain. Work with it. Feel better and don't forget to call. Prayers going up... sleeve.me 5 Posted May 26, 2016 lisa how are you feeling now? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
lisamstevens 53 Posted May 26, 2016 @@sleeve.me I'm doing so much better! The pain was most intense the first week. I'm able to do everything I did pre op without pain. The largest incision -the one where your tummy comes out, is a bit sensitive but it's manageable!
