Question about certain type of protein...

Recommended Posts

So I am 4 years out and trying to get back to the basics.... Have any of you tried the Isopure (comes in glass bottle) that are flavored? I saw coconut, grape etc. just wanted some input!

Also have you ever made Popsicles out of van Protein, almond milk or coconut milk, and fruit? Outcomes?

I drank Isopure for several weeks out of surgery. The numbers on it are great. However, to me, the taste was vile, and I had to mix it 50/50 with G2 or Powerade Zero to choke it down. Some people like it -- I would definitely recommend trying single bottles before committing to a crate.

Syntrax Nectar has some similar flavors and tastes much better IMO. It's also cheaper. On the other hand, it's a powder, so you have to mix the shakes yourself. If that's something you are interested in, you can also buy sample packs of the Syntrax nectar flavors.

I haven't tried making the popsicles but they sound good :) I would just be careful to count all the calories and carbs. Depending on the fruit you use, that can add up quickly.

They're OK- their specs are good, and they are one of the few choices around for a clear diet. I tried a couple of their "tea" flavors and found them sickeningly sweet. For my taste, the best use for them is to mix them into similarly flavored Jello, but I only use them if I have reason to do a clear diet, otherwise there are better products for my taste. Since taste is such a YMMV thing, if you like them, then go for it - they are a good product.

I got some small bottles to try pre-op to see if I liked them. I didn't think they were that great. I like Syntrax nectar and ProtiDiet liquid beverage concentrates better when it comes to clear Protein supplements.

I would recommend you get some small bottles to try before you make an investment in them.

I tried it once. Hated the taste. So once was enough. But some people find the taste acceptable.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
