Insurance change--Roller coaster--happy ending!

Recommended Posts

My surgery has been moved to MAY 24th!!!! OMG that is right around the corner!!!! What an emotional 24 hour roller coaster. Yesterday I found out my employer was switching insurance companies effective 6/1 so the surgery approval that I already received from my current insurance company and 6/15 surgery date would be useless. I was so upset. I contacted the office manager at the surgeon’s office and today she called me and told me she was able to move my surgery up a couple weeks to be covered under my current insurance. I was annoyed because it was my surgeons office who has drug this process out unnecessarily long by asking for tests with long lead times (sleep study, EGD, DEXA scans) AFTER I already completed the program (nutritional classes/education, psychological evaluation, etc.) early March and received insurance approval. Had they asked for things earlier in the process I would have already been sleeved. Regardless, she went above and beyond for me and I am so thankful for her help! So now I need to start my pre-op diet and get ready for the next journey!! :D :D

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
