I need to get new glasses, I know my prescription has changed. right now going between my "new" glasses, my "old glasses" and readers. not happy with any of them.

I know from working at an eye doctor office I needed to wait until my blood sugars had been stable for 6 weeks, and they have been not only stable but completely normal! which is probably why I am not happy with my glasses.

Question is - what about the hormone dump issue - should I wait until that settles down?

Please chime in if you have any experience with this or opinions.

Opinion:

If "not happy" means that all of your current glasses aren't giving you good enough vision, new lenses without investing in new frames will keep the expense low. You can then hold off on new frames a while longer so that, expensive as they are, you know they'll suit your slimmer/smaller face.

If your readers are prescription, consider a new pair from the drugstore. I had a made-in-China pair from a dollar store -- probably cost no more than $2 -- that my ophthalmologist checked and declared the lenses of really good quality.

Most of all, you want to see well. Don't put it off.

frames are no longer in stock - I did check that but if I end up getting new ones I will choose a newer frame in case I need new lenses later. but dang, even those are pricey once you get old enough for progressive bifocals. I suppose I could get regular bifocals, it is probably just vanity wanting progressives.

I went to the eye Dr yesterday for the very first time (I'm almost 48) and discovered I need progressive bifocals. Slight correction in both near and far. I am going to have to get used to wearing glasses.

What do you mean "frames are no longer in stock?" I have a feeling we're talking about different things. If your initial quandary was about frames and not vision, it's up to you.

it took me a while to get used to bifocals, but now I can't get used to the readers when I wear them instead.

@@Christinamo7, oh, I thought lenses can be made to size by the optometry shop. As you may guess, my opinion comes from my needing reading glasses only. Given the possibility of dizziness or bumping into things or simple unhappiness and not functioning at your best, I vote for new frames and lenses now.

Is there a chance that you have long-forgotten frames at the back of a drawer for which lenses can be had? Then you'd still be able to splurge on new, stylish frames when you're close to goal.

@@Christinamo7 - actually I don't think it is - one of my best friends is older (in her late 50's) and she got her first pair of bifocals as progressives but then she broke them and she didn't have the money to get anything but traditional bifocals and the whole year she had them she was completely -miserable- they didn't really help her the way the progressives did and she was looking over them as much as through them. It made a huge difference to her when she was able to save the $$ to get progressive again!

I think they have a way to tell how to fit glasses on there and they have a decent return policy too. I plan on using them next year myself (we just got very expensive but not very satisfactory glasses from America's Best about two years ago, so I'd been researching glasses places as my vision has definitely changed AGAIN... sigh).
