"Did you know?" re: protein and water

Recommended Posts

Water and Protein this information feeds "my need to know" soul. I think it's important for some people to know the "why" instead of the basic answers given, it is for me. The only thing I would caution is if you have Fluid retention and any sort of kidney history more water might not be your friend. I hope folks find this as enlightening as I did.

everything about Protein and Water was basically hammered into my head pre op. I had to meet with the nutritionist several times, had to go to some group sessions, had a "quiz", got a huge packet of information, had to sign forms that I understood everything. I was quite happy about that in the end. Post op I was very well prepared

I'm not sure about anyone else, but I truly wish this in-depth information was disseminated to me. My WLS manual did not include this information, I'm a skeptic by nature and while I know the basics concerning the importance of Water and Protein this information feeds "my need to know" soul. Thanks for sharing. Unfortunately, not everyone gets adequate nutrition education (or understands what they are given). This is a very clear explanation.

So glad you found this helpful. I wish everyone having these Weight Loss Surgeries received better information about all aspects of the tool. I know my Dr gave me a WLS "Bible" as he called it. The information provide was very helpful, however when he himself deviated from what he had written in His "Bible I was very upset and made him aware of it. Had I not had this "Bible and the BP site I never would have known what he as trying to do was not good or safe for me.

Excellent information and nice summary. I received all of this information prior to surgery; had a great surgeon and NUT. However, I know no everyone received all the great support that I did, so thank you for sharing it. Also, it never hurts to be reminded about these things.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
