I am currently around 370-375...I would need to lose around 200 lbs to be at my goal weight...is that even possible with the sleeve? I know it is with bypass

It strange for me too. I'd like to loose 150 but now with sleeve two weeks away I started to really read online that by not using the traditional bypass I may stand to loose less - (on average) People loose 80-100 pounds. My doctor suggested the sleeve and I didn't really push - although now I wish I really would of pressed for more reasons why/why not. I have seen men loose more on the sleeve however. My cousin was 400 pounds (over a bit) now he weighs 210- shockingly he doesn't even have loose skin but he's 24. Best of luck

I have lost approx. 220 lbs. It isn't easy though. I had to fight hard for every pound after about the 150 lb mark, commit to eating healthy for the rest of my life, and radically revise the way I thought about food and nutrition.

Today is my one year surgiversary. I started out 200 lbs overweight and lost 180 lbs in one year. So, yes, it's possible. It all depends on you. It doesn't matter which surgery you get. You can't rely on it alone to do the work for you. It's just a tool so you have to use it wisely and correctly.

You can lose all the weight you need to on the sleeve. The statistics lump everyone together- including those who don't change their eating habit. I have been FORTUNATE that I have had to work for EVERY pound. I never had the "honeymoon" effect. While those around me were losing 10 pounds a week initially, I was losing, if lucky a pound---maybe two. I've never had a big lose. But... I am consistent-- I lose about 7-8 pounds a month and pretty much do this each and every month. I've had to learn to eat the way I am supposed to. I am glad there was no quick fix. I still have a little less than 35 pounds to go. I don't care how long it takes because I am doing what I am supposed to and know that it will come off. I feel fantastic.

If you are willing to follow the program you can lose what you need to lose. You'll be more healthy and happier. Don't expect a quick fix. We are in this for the long run. It doesn't matter if it takes a year or 3 years as long as you make it and learn about how to maintain this lose.

We have all seen folks who have had the bi-pass, sleeve, lapband etc who have gained it back. But-- there are MANY who have had these procedures who have embraced the new lifestyle and are living a wonderful life. Good Luck!

I try not to look at statistics too much because they don't really mean much to the individual. If something says that people loose an AVERAGE of lets say 100 pounds, that means bunch of people lost a lot more and a bunch of people lost a lot less. so it's hard to judge based on that.

your weight loss will depend entirely on YOU and the work you put into it

Wow congrats! I plan on doing everything I can to get in better shape...I have a common question do you have extra skin?

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
