Got Something Stuck While Eating

Recommended Posts

Hey guys - not sure if i pb'd or slimed as this is my first experience with this. I wasn't paying attention and swallowed too big of a bite and it got stuck. I felt like i was going to die. But remembering what others have said i chose not to panic and got up and started walking around. Not wanting to puke in public i made my way to a bathroom where i just stood there expecting it to come up. But it did not,. It jsut sat there and i started having to spit because i was filling up with saliva. a few clearings of my throat the pressure/stuckness seemed to pass. nothing came up but spit but i am worried a little about it. Any help will do.

I wouldn't worry about what happened. I have had this problem a couple times when I forget I have a band and eat to fast or to large of a bite. I consider it a put myself in check moment. I find making myself burp helps to fix the problem quicker.

You'll be fine. It happens to all of us at one point or another. I've pb'd probably 20 times over the course of a year and you eventually learn to walk, yoga and different things to keep from actually throwing up. Sorry you had to go through this but hope it wasn't too bad.

Hugs,

Sherri Jo

I just had my fourth episode last night. I wanted a quick piece of meat (I know better) before I went outside to change Water (we have a few irrigated acres). If a neighbor was watching they must have thought I'd taken up chewing tobacco, cause man I was doing some "spitting". Finally cleared it.

Next time I'll wait til I'm done and take my time....

sure do. I have to slow down and th best thing I have found is to get up and walk around. DO NOT DRINK ANYTHING...IT WILL MAKE YOU WORSE AND FEEL LIKE VOMITTING.

I got banded 10/23/07. I nitice that I get the hiccups more anybody else get them??

hiccups are a sign that your stuck. I think it's your body's way of trying to unstuck food in your esophagus. I don't know..but it's really annoying and happens all the time to me. I usually just end up pb'ing..which I'm sure is not good. But the hiccups are painful and annoying. PB and they are magically gone

Apple juice has really helped me when something gets stuck. It may take a few sips but works wonders.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
