Can you change surgery date?

Recommended Posts

Originally my insurance wanted 6 months of the doctor supervised weight loss and now it's changed to 3 months. I'm already past 3 months but still waiting on upper GI and psych eval. Those will hopefully be done next week so I'm looking at having a surgery date of early June. We are not prepared for that at all. We were expecting August/September. If I am approved and given a surgery date that is too soon can I continue going to the doctor for weight loss monitoring and push my surgery back? Or is it set in stone? I have CIGNA if that matters.

you should just tell your surgeon's office when you want to have surgery.....all your appointments and evals are usually good for a year......I think the final pre-op visit has to be done within 30 days but other than that you should be good.....Just let the office know when will work for you and since it's further out that will probably not be a problem at all. Nothing is ever set in stone......but you need to let them know when you're wanting to have surgery.

Talk to the surgical coordinator, my insurance approval was valid for 6mths - as long as I continued the monthly weigh in. Good luck! I'm scheduled to be sleeved tomorrow 5/13!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
