Twoods196 4 Posted May 11, 2016 Hello all, new here an scheduled to have a sleeve on June 13th. I had a EGD today an it was easy an painless but in the report it said they took a biopsy. Anyone know why they might do this? Just has me a little concerned. Thanks! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
doppelganger 54 Posted May 12, 2016 I had to have an EGD as well pre-op to check out a narrowing on my upper gi. My gi doc took biopsies of two lesions at the antrum. I was nervous too. Biopsy is never a good word. He told my husband post op what was found and gave us pictures of everything he checked. I hate that you didn't seem to get the same info. My EGD was fine and the biopsy negative but the 10day wait for the results was nervewracking. It's ok to call your Dr and ask what the biopsy was for, actually you should. It might put your mind at ease instead of speculating. Best of luck with everything.
Twoods196 4 Posted May 13, 2016 Thanks for the response. I called my doctor an was told it wasn't anything to worry about. As I had gastritis(guess that's how it's spelled) an he took a sample of the irritated area. Thanks for the response! KristenLe 5,979 Posted May 13, 2016 @@Twoods196 They do biopsies for many reasons - it's basically the term they use for when they examine the tissue they collected. We tend to associate biopsy with cancer - that's not always the case. Hope the results come back clear - and all is well.
