Steph Anie 72 Posted May 11, 2016 Can I just vent and say I am tired of people telling me how much weight I do or do not need to lose. How are you handling people telling you that you need to stop losing or that you're too thin? I am between five two and five three and still weigh 142.... This still puts me in the overweight catagory. My Drs don't seem worried but friends and family have all sorts of opinions Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

JamieLogical 8,713 Posted May 11, 2016 I just went on vacation with my husband, parents, sister, and brother-in-law last month. I had fits trying to convince my parents and sister that I am still technically overweight and they don't have to freak out about me maybe losing a couple more pounds while I'm training for a marathon. BobbyD 211 Posted May 11, 2016 Same problem here. I tell them it's not up to me to stop. My body will adjust and until then, we'll all have to deal with it. I am at 192 and still considered overweight till I reach 178. But, their perception is their reality.
BarrySue 602 Posted May 11, 2016 Tell them you are working with your doctors to determine what your true healthy weight is. It is scary that we have so conditioned ourselves to be used to larger bodies in general here in America that overweight seems average, average seems skinny, and skinny seems incomprehensible. Christinamo7 4,042 Posted May 13, 2016 yes! to what everyone has said. for me, because I had a cancer scare last year, that is still technically unresolved - I will give people a little more grace if I get to that point. it was very touching to know that people care, but ultimately I will let them know that I am working with my doctors to determine when, and how to stop loosing. Goodness. I can't even really believe I could get there next year?!? what an exciting problem to have.
Dkdebose 56 Posted May 13, 2016 See me, I'm an asshole and I embrace it. So when they talk to me about my weight loss and they have comments it's usually the ones that was more comfortable then I was when I was a big guy but now they are "concerned" about me losing so much weight. You didn't have a thing to say when I was 335lbs. So have a Coke and a Smile and STFU. People better qualified then them have told me I am on the right track. So keep they can keep there opinions to themselves because I could careless. **breathe, wooosaaa*** Exercise the demons!!!!! JupiterinVirgo 846 Posted May 13, 2016 Tell them thank you for their unsolicited and uninformed opinions, and that you would like to now share your opinions about their bodies!
mechele8 63 Posted May 16, 2016 I had that same problem and it actually made me second guess my weight loss goals. Then as @@Dkdebose said they didn't have a problem when I was pushing 300lbs so their opinions no longer matter. I have to do what's best for me and my health. Now I'm back on track. I hit the 60% of excess weight in my 9th month so now I can go as far as I want. Good luck to you but block out those negative comments and keep doing you. VSGAnn2014 12,992 Posted May 16, 2016 We had house guests this weekend (family members). And one of them would NOT shut up and kept screeching, "How SKINNY you are! Boy, you've lost a lot of weight! Are you through losing weight? Jeez, how much do you weigh?!" After the third or fourth time she went through this in front of everyone else, I turned to her, smiled sweetly and offered @@LipstickLady 's suggested response: "I'm tired of talking about my weight. Let's talk about your weight. How much do you weigh?" The room erupted with laughter! (This is the person in the group whom nobody ever has the cajones to tell to STFU.) Well, she did STFU. She did NOT volunteer how much she weighed. And she never said another thing about my weight the whole weekend. Bam!
