back pain after 100+ lbs lost

Recommended Posts

I have lost 123 lbs! Yay! But I have been dealing with back pain for the last few months. It is not tied to anything internal. It is worst at the end of the day and in the evening. Wondering if it is tied to my loss of fat on my back, or the extra weight on the front of the skin of boobs or my stomach without the fat to support it?? Anyone struggle with this? Not sure there is a remedy! Advil is out obviously!

What kind of pain? Lower back pain that shoots down your leg when walking? That's the kind I had for several years before I had surgery (even saw a back specialist and did the physical therapy thing, but it didn't really help much). When I lost weight during my 6 month pre-op diet, it went away. However, after my surgery and after having lost a few more pounds, it came back with a vengeance to the point that my right leg was numb and nearly useless sometimes. It was recommended on here that I see a chiropractor. I saw one close to home, and he explained my pain right away. I saw him 3 times a week the first month then just once a week for an additional two months. I've been perfectly fine since then with no back pain.

I have and I read up on this awhile ago. Evidently it's not all that uncommon. Some think it has to do with your body having to adjust to the massive loss of weight - it has to carry itself completely differently. Plus you lose in some areas faster than others - which could also be throwing things out of whack.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
