Banded and Alcohol

Recommended Posts

I have a question.. We are going on a cruise in 3 weeks and I was wondering about being banded and alcohol.

I don't drink often, actually it's been over 2 years since my last drink. But since I'll be on vacation I might want one or two.

Can you still drink alcohol while being banded?

I have a glass of wine every now and then. But I can not drink more then 2. It seems like it affects me more now then it used to. Just watch all the calories in the drinks though. If it was me and I was on a cruise I would save up the calories for Desserts. YUM! Have fun.

Yep, you can drink a little. I have a crown royal and coke zero every evening. Just watch the super fruity and high calorie ones.

Just a warning, I've found that drinking irritates my band! Isn't that wierd? I always have a hard time for a day or two after a night out. I'm going to Vegas in September and actually plan to abstain from alcohol! THAT will be a first.

Gosh, enjoy your vacation!!! Sounds heavenly!

I can drink absolut and diet cranberry juice or diet v8 fruit fusion in a jagerbomber glass(like a shot glass inside a cup). But i will get really wasted if i try to even drink close to what i used to be able to put away. I would suggest eating WELL before drinking, as your liqui can get stuck behind it (not enjoyable with 80 proof liquor, I tell ya!) And also, it can be har to recover in morning (at least for me because eating a ton of foo the next morning used to be my hangover cure). Since I had my daughter, I can rarely drink, but when I get the chance to cut loose with my husband, I do.

Alcohol drinks don't bother me. The affects are noticed much sooner, but I have a margarita or two once a week or so, wine, and even a beer once in a while. I guess that most likely since I am over two years out, this has a lot to do with it too. I have had no problems maintaining at goal either.

2 years 4 months post op.

225 pounds lost, at my 3 times adjusted goal.

Life is good!

I was wondering...

My doctor recommended no more carbonated drinks after banding. But I also remember someone at the seminar asking if it's okay to drink beer and alcohol after being banded and he said you can. From what I know, the carbonation in soda can stretch your pouch...so what about the carbonation in beer? :girl_hug:

Any carbonation could strech the pouch. Anyways, I had a beer or two in the last year or so, but nothing else. Seems my tolerance for alcohol has decreased.

I can/have had alcohol since banding. I avoid the carbonation, like I do cokes.

Mixed drinks with no hidden calories -like the froofy fruity things!.. Alcohol isn't good for weight loss in general, so I wouldn't recommend drinking all the time.. but on vacation I would/do!

Oh and tolerance DEFINITELY is different now, one drink gets me loopy and giggly.. actually 2 sips really. It use to take 3-4 drinks for me to get loopy. It's quite amusing.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
