lat72 38 Posted May 10, 2016 Has anyone's Doctor told them to lose 5 lbs before surgery? Didn't lose all of it to have him cancel it. Freaking out here. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
jane13 2,256 Posted May 10, 2016 @@lat72 - depends on your doctor and maybe your insurance requirements. If you don't mind me asking how long did you have to lose it, as in pre-op? What were the reasons why you didn't? Pre-op there maybe a very big reason why he wanted you to eat a particular diet, and maybe lose 5lbs, that is why I am asking. jane
gemigirl 134 Posted May 10, 2016 My surgeon is requiring a 5% weight loss before they will even submit to insurance. At first I totally rebelled - obviously I can't lose weight, that's why I'm here! That combined with a "last supper" mentality caused me to gain 6 lbs between my first and second appointments. I realized that there was work I had to do with my relationship around food, that it's not a punishment but rather a learning process that is teaching me how to manage food and get used to tracking so I know that my body is getting what it needs, and I started dilligently tracking my food and saying "no" to most treats. Now I see the presurgery weight loss requirement as another building block that will make me stronger and more successful after I'm sleeved. Speak with the surgeon or nutritionist and have them explain the reason behind the 5 lb requirement, that should contextualize it and before you know it, those pounds will be gone. jane13 2,256 Posted May 10, 2016 @@lat72 - your surgery is next Tuesday. I would get in touch with your nutritionist and get a plan. No salt, Water, move, no carbs, sugars, move some more, Water, Protein first and write down everything. You have to start looking at food as 'fuel' for your body. I would still call my NUT TODAY! You got this! keep us posted:D
