Has anyone started drinking alcohol yet? I know we are not supposed to. But I'm curious how everyone deals with social events. Is there a go to 'safe' recommended drink? Will I really never have a pint of beer again??

I can't remember how far post op I was, but I want to say it was 6 months or later. I recall being a very cheap drunk. Lol. One drink was all I needed. I did find that I cycled quickly (i.e. Drink, buzz, perfectly fine and ready to drink again). I'm not a big drinker, so I really don't drink. Maybe I'll have a drink or two every three months or so. No beer or big margaritas- no room.

My Surgeon was realistic, he said if I'm going to drink, stick to liquor. Beer is way too heavy for a new tummy :)

I was told that we couldn't have any for three months. Since then I've had some wine and some beer, but I'm not much of a drinker. Most likely yes, you will never have a pint of beer again, only because it won't fit in you. You would probably be able to have a few sips before feeling full.

nothing against the poster but I find it interesting how much people worry about alcohol. don't drink much so it's not a big deal for me but I find it interesting to see people worrying about not being able to have a beer again. I would think that loosing weight and becoming healthy is more important than some alcohol.

I felt similar about not being able to binge at a buffet, but I keep telling myself that it's a small price to pay for loosing all the weight

We were told not for a year and then not more than one or two. I just went to a social event where the drinks were wine, liquor and mixers (carbonation). I took my own drinks (Water and some diet v-8 splash) because I asked about this from the hostess beforehand. I've never been one to feel like I have to drink even if it was all my friends and me at a bar so my friends are used to me sometimes not drinking. Once my year is up, I will if I want.

Search this site for alcohol. You'll find more opinions than you can possibly believe!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
