I am one week post op and am having an extremely hard time not only meeting Protein requirements and goals but getting any protein in period. I am 1 week post op and on the full liquid phase. My stomach can't tolerate the protien shakes right now. Each sip of it hurts. I mix Protein powder with my Soups but I know it's not enough. Anyone have any food suggestions?

I was allowed to have unsweetened applesauce, and I could tolerate unflavored Protein Powder mixed in that, but at one week your liquids are the very most important thing.

I like ProtiDiet liquid beverage concentrates, Syntrax Nectar, v8, GNC lean shake 25, ProtiDiet Tomato basil and creamy chicken Soups, and Premier Protein shakes when I was on liquids. Just keep trying.

It may not be the shakes, but the volume of the shakes. I would put a small amount of the shake into a small bowl, (keep the rest in the frig) and with a small spoon, eat it like Soup. SLOWLY! Also a bit of Protein powder (choc. a fav.) stirred into plain, lowfat greek yogurt, a kind of high protein pudding. And sip, sip, sip skim milk. It all adds up. Good luck, and welcome to a new, healthier you.

You can make Protein jigglers. Basically you make the Jello with 2/3 cup hot Water. Let cool for 5 min. Then you mix in 2 scoops of unflavored or flavored Protein powder to the room temp Water 1/2 cup. Then mix the two together. My surgery is tomorrow. I trippled the recipe and I have 7 4oz servings of 21gram protein Jello jigglers waiting for me when I get home.

Maybe it's the temperature of the Water or milk your using to mix with the Protein powder. I used to love everything I drank to be I e cold and with ice cubes. Now it has to be room temperature.

Sometimes the shakes were too thick for me as well in the first week post-op. Isopure zero carb and about time pro hydrate were lifesavers for me!

one week out it's ok not to get all your Protein in, just get in what you can. as time goes on you will be able to get in more and more

yogurt or applesauce with added Protein powder. & like others have said.. just sip sip sip and don't be discouraged if you don't meet your goals.. you will get there. I didn't meet mine for quite some time.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
