Hello, I'm new and need advice..

Recommended Posts

Hi all, I'm new to this forum as I have only been sleeved since 01.05.16, so 8 days ago! I'm 28, female 5ft9in and live in the UK. I've been overweight since the age of 8, and I decided that enough was enough, and elected to have private treatment for the Gastric Sleeve. My start weight from consultation was 23st 10lb after my two week pre-op diet I was 21st 8lb, and a week after surgery I am 20st 8lb. As you can imagine I'm very pleased, but I really need some advice.

One week out from surgery I'm still on liquids and will be until the 01.06.16 as advised here in the uk. So I'm supposed to have a Protein Shake for Breakfast, Soup for lunch and dinner, am I okay as I can only manage about 4 teaspoons of each meal, and I'm struggling with drinks etc, as I've only been allowed to sip from a cup/glass as of today (previously had to drink with a spoon).

Also is it normal not to be able to tell of your full, hungry or thirsty?

Anyway, thank you in advance for your replies I appreciate it xxx

It is definitely normal to not be able to tell if you are full, hungry, or thirsty. As you can imagine, removing 80% of your stomach does a lot of damage to your nerves, so you won't necessarily receive proper signals from your stomach for a while. You should definitely work to get as much Fluid in as possible. It is essential to avoid dehydration. Just try sip, sip, sipping all day long. It can be hard, but you have to constantly, consciously work at it. Rather than set a whole day goal for yourself (which would be 64 oz. or 2 litres) focus on just getting a little bit every 15 minutes. Aim for 1 oz. or 30 mL every 15 minutes or so while you are awake.

welcome to the board

having surgery at the "younger" age of 29 is great !!!

i wish i had my sleeve back then too!!!

sleeve wasn't around in the dinosaur days!! :D

you usually don't feel ANY restriction until you start soft foods, then solids

(can't tell if your tummy is full)

many people do have problems drinking

(especially right after surgery)

i drank room temperature Water for a while

that helped me, maybe will work for you too

also crystal light (not sure you have that in UK?)

this group is here to help, support you

we'll give advice, experiences, answers to your question

but at the end of the day "Listen to your doc"

the advise from "above" by @@JamieLogical is great!

you need to drink more water

sipping slowly, with breaks in between is fine

you will have to gradually drink more

when (if) you don't drink enough

there is a chance of getting dehydrated :(

not good!!!

you are doing great

keep up the good work newbie

kathy

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
