Surgery tomorrow May 10 and freaking out

Recommended Posts

My surgery is scheduled for tomorrow, May 10. I started this process at the end of January so all in all it hasn't been too long a wait. I'm excited but also very nervous and scared. I have a 7 year old son and with Mother's Day yesterday I think I'm feeling extra emotional. My son will be sleeping over a friends house tonight since surgery will likely be scheduled at 5:30 am arrival in the morning. I can't help but worry about dying or complications and wonder if he's going to lose his mother. I get that complications are rare and I'm on the lower end of BMI (38 with co morb), but my rational mind is on break at the moment and fear and anxiety seem to be trying to take control. I am working today and my son has school so I will have distractions to take my mind off of everything. Hoping for some peace and calm today, my last day before surgery.

(I can see that there are several others in this same boat by reading through the threads. Thanks to everyone for being a source of support.)

@@Freckles70 - this is very normal. try to think about how much healthier you are going to be losing the extra weight. He is 7, you will be chasing grandbabies in twenty years.

Praying for you. Understand I am a lot older and my 'baby' was 23 when I had this surgery last year and I still worried...

NO REGRETS!

No one knows for sure that you will be ok. But, with that being said the complications that you mentioned are rare. At this point you have decided on your own that this is right for you. You have to continue to trust your own judgement. Be realistic , will you lose the weight without surgery?

I had gotten to the point that I would rather die free than live a slave to my parasitic fat. I have NO regrets.

If you want a Surgery buddy let me know. We are on this journey together and we will be healthy and fabulous!!

Good luck tomorrow !!

This was my first surgical procedure of my life and I came out just fine. The day before I was scared and when I got to the back the day of to get Ready I was even more nervous. But the told me as I was on the table they were going to start with a few breaths of oxygen and next thing I knew I was waking up in my room!! You are ready and prepared and my son is 6 so I know the mom feeling as well! Good luck!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
