Hello. Quick but heartfelt thanks to everyone for sharing topics & comments. Today is my first on this app & I've enjoyed reading experiences. Tuesday I start my soft food phase. Does anyone have a MUST TRY/MUST EAT for week 3? And how do I determine what 2 oz of eggs are? I thought I'd start with a hard boiled egg. How do I determine what amounts to 2 oz of eggs? Many thanks. xo

Hi Moppet,

I begin soft foods this week too. My surgery date was 4/13. Been successful eating an egg so far. Here is how I do it.

Spray Pam inside a small coffee mug, break one egg into mug, stir or scramble well. Add salt/pepper/seasoning.

Put in microwave for 30 seconds with cover over mug. It comes out in between scrambled and soft boiled and is just the right consistency. I break into tiny pieces and eat with a spoon. First time I could only eat 1/2. Now I can eat a whole egg usually as one meal. Hope it works for you.

Welcome! The best thing you could buy is an electronic kitchen scale. They aren't to expensive. Get one that has ounces and grams. You won't regret it. I believe 2 ounces is about a quarter cup.

Measure after cooking. Same thing if you purée something. Measure afterward.

For reference-

1 tbl = 1 oz

1/4 c= 2 oz

1/2 c= 4 oz.

Don't eyeball things, especially in the beginning. You can be off and not eat enough or too much.

I went to the dollar store and stocked up on little round glass ramekins as well as plastic ones. They all have a half cup capacity.

Good luck! Btw I microwave my eggs to soft boil stage too. When you are able to eat tuna, microwaving an egg to chop into it is so quick and tasty!!!

@@moppet - the OP was right about not 'eyeballing' the amounts. If you put too much in your stomach you will know it -

Take a bite, chew well, swallow and then wait a couple of minutes - repeat. Contact your WLS team about this but IMHO you may/may not be able to eat all of it - DO NOT FORCE yourself to eat.

The @mention below the OP screen name to the left will automatically put @____ in your reply, or you can type it. There is also the option in the tools at the top for PM.

Welcome!

I second the use of a food scale. It is invaluable for post-op living. I'm over 20 months out and I still use my food scale multiple times a day!

Another thing that was super useful to me post-op were these. little baby food containers that hold 2 oz. each:

And for soft food recipes, you can't beat this site:

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
