When did you start to enjoy food again?

Recommended Posts

I'm nearly 3 weeks post op and look at food and think "mmmm yummmmm", I then eat a few mouth fulls and find I didn't enjoy it and soon after (sometimes) feel a bit sick. I eat slowly, and mush all my food up as per the stage I'm at etc.

How many months post op did you start enjoying the taste and texture of food, and the feel of it in your tummy again?

About two months out for me. I still struggle sometimes, though. Some foods I just cant eat like rice, greasy foods, milk sometimes. But all in all I'm good. It's a slow journey you'll know when ti really start with the food. Three weeks is way too soon. Hang in there you will get there soon.

It was around the 2nd or 3rd month. Mixing food groups together gave the food more flavor. So I found pleasure in eating Soups and chilis.

I am into my 6th week sleeve journey now and am just now getting to where I enjoy something.

I actually had post a few weeks back that any time I even smelled food, it would make me nauseous.

I still haven't gotten very adventurous with my choices, but there are things I loved pre op, like boiled eggs, plain milk, and any fish, that I just can't stomach the taste of right now. I'm saddened by that, but I'm very happy that I am now enjoying a wide variety of foods.

Hang in there....you will too.

Is it weird that I don't WANT to enjoy food again? Enjoying food got me in this predicament in the first place. I wish I didn't have taste buds.

Your mind and body are getting in sync. That's a good thing! Eat to live- not live to eat. I have a hard time remembering to eat even almost 2 months out and I'm cleared for a general diet. I don't touch carbs- the couple times I tried even mushy mushed up Pasta I thought I was going to die. Same with rice. I look at it this way- why bother? They are - to me- empty calories. I stick to high Protein and veggies. I thought asparagus would be hard but it goes down like a charm- grilled, of course, or oven roasted (mmmmmmm!!!!!).

I'm dying for a salad but still petrified to try lettuce. One day- just not yet

I'm almost 6 months out, and I still take very little pleasure from food/eating. It still feels like a task I have to force upon myself. I still have no appetite. I still don't want to eat. From a weight-loss perspective this is a good thing, but it also means that I can go a week or two sometimes barely eating anything and not even noticing it because I'm busy, or in a creative whirlwind or just plain disgusted by the thought of putting food in my mouth. It's a weird dichotomy, because after stage like this, right around my. I suddenly become voracious because I wasn't getting enough nutrients during the fasting period. Lucky for me this is not hurt my weight-loss but all this is to say that you should settle in for the journey, because there will be a lot of times when you don't enjoy food, when you have no appetite. And there will also be times when you become voracious. The best approach to this is discipline; balancing out with good planning and follow through on the plans. Mine balances out because of these two extremes I go through, but I'm sure my body would feel better if I was eating three or four times a day every day.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
