ShannonRT 1 Posted August 13, 2007 That's where the camera goes, so they can angle it "up" towards the stomach and see everything. Mine is actually above my belly button, not right in it. I have seen laparoscopic cholecystectomies (gall bladder removal) and the camera WAS in the belly button. But it's been several years, so I'm not sure if it's surgeon preference or what.
