Getting it off my chest

Recommended Posts

So I just "celebrated" my birthday this week and getting old sucks...it's not as fun to have a birthday anymore but being just five weeks post op and I didn't even get a birthday cake...no candles....no drinks.....no nothing. I know it's for the better but I'm a little disappointed my family didn't come up with some creative way to make it special. Or even get a cake just so I could have a bite. Really no big deal just had to get it off my chest!

My birthday was nine days post op. They decorated my Premier Protein shake lol but I know what you mean. I'm three weeks today my daughters bday today. Still scared to try slightest bite of anything not on "menu" plus I heard dumping sucks :(

Yeah. It does get easier you are getting to the turning point where it all starts getting easier....I felt so much better and more comfortable with what I could and couldn't do starting at about week four.

I was in the hospital having the surgery on mine but I had 3 birthday dinners and my last cake. Our anniversary was the very next week and we just went antique stores all over town until I was exhausted I was not out of surgery long. But he made it special and bought me tons of cool stuff.

I've never understood the compulsion to "celebrate" birthdays, but really in this case it sounds like are pouting because your family couldn't read your mind.

Life's a lot simpler and less drama-filled when you actually communicate instead of demanding that everyone read your mind and throw tantrums when they can't. (How many marriages would that save?)

I honestly think you're having more of an issue with the lack of normalcy around it. I think next year it will seem like things are more back to normal, and you may even get a cake, and even have a piece of said cake ;)

Happy Birthday!

Yeah you're right! I'm over it now and I wasn't pouting like another member wrote just simply expressing my feelings and feeling frustrated at the assumptions of my family. Their "you can't have that" statements. It's all good. It's new to me and them so we are learning.

Thanks for your kind words.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
