Sipping while exercising?

Recommended Posts

How to do you get used to sipping instead of chugging or gulping when you're exercising???

I'm still pre op surgery is the 18th and I've been trying to sip while at the gym but it's not quenching my thirst that way.

I'm post op 3 weeks on Monday and I am able to take normal drinks. I can't chug, but I can take a normal sized "gulp". It may not be that much of an issue for you, I'm sure it varies person to person.

There's no reason why you would have to. By the time you are back to vigorous exercise post-op, you should be able to drink normally.

I was gonna write something.....but @JamieLogical post sums it up.... -_-

Oh, practicing sipping pre-op is pointless.....it won't be the same as after surgery. That will be automatic..... ^_^

That's for sure! You will definitely not be able to manage more than tiny sips in those first few days post-op if you have the swelling most people do. If you are one of the lucky ones who can drink normally right out of the gate, you should do so! Getting Water in is soooooo important!

I can gulp my Water when exercising. I can gulp my Water at other times as well.

Couldn't do both early post op: exercise and gulp.

Now, I can do both of these, no problems

Pre-op I think it is basically impossible to sip Water the way you do after surgery. I know people keep trying to practice but it is a waste of time.

You learn to sip post-op and what that means is different for everyone.

What people should practice pre-op is just drinking Water period, all day.

You can drink and workout, you will drink at whatever pace is comfortable. Right after surgery, I was drink more water, faster while working out than just sitting. I could easily drink almost 16 ounces in 45 minutes.

6.5 months out from sleeve surgery.

I have zero problem drinking as much Water as I care to drink at a pace that's fine.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
