GinaCampbell 434 Posted May 5, 2016 Hi everyone! I am scheduled for surgery on May 31st here in the UK. The closer the date gets, the more distressed I am becoming. I am dieting now and must start the two week diet on May 17th. Not a liquid one, just a low carb, low fat 1,000 calorie one. I am only 5 days into this diet and am really struggling. This has given me second thoughts about having the sleeve done. If this is what it will feel like post surgery, I don't know if it will be worth it. But after fighting 2 years for it, I'd be a fool not to have it done. I am really upset and don't know what to do! Help please. KristenLe 5,979 Posted May 5, 2016 I am still pre-surgery but dieting before surgery and living after surgery will be different. It takes time for your body to adjust to a low carb diet but once it does it really isn't all that difficult. With the sleeve - you have restriction so you won't eat the amount pre-surgery and you shouldn't be very hungry. You do need to change your eating habits but the outcome is well worth it to me. I can't do it on my own and rather not be needing a hoveround at 50.
sbg224 318 Posted May 6, 2016 After surgery it is very different, you don't have the same appetite, cravings or capacity to eat what you did before sleeve. It is very hard to compare pre and post sleeve eating, it really changes quite significantly. Hang in there it will be worth it, lovin my sleeve, 94lbs gone, and 3 medications. allip 0 Posted May 7, 2016 (edited) I'm scheduled for May 31st as well though I've opted to go out of pocket and get this done in Mexico given the 3-5 year waiting list here. I will start my 2 week pre-op diet a day or two late as I'm travelling for work until the 18th. I'd love to keep in touch and see how things are going for you. I suspect it will be easier post surgery than it might be now. I guess we'll know in a few weeks. GinaCampbell 434 Posted May 23, 2016 My surgery is on hold now due to an elevated platelet issue. Still have to be on the diet in case they operate anyway. Mine isn't liquid only but I am struggling. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
