wlspt6602 5 Posted May 5, 2016 I am 14 years out from my gastric bypass and have started drinking and now I think I am replacing one bad habit with another. Can anyone help me?
KristenLe 5,979 Posted May 5, 2016 Get professional help. This is not unusual and a therapist can help. Good luck! Stay strong!

Valentina 2,642 Posted May 5, 2016 There are many on this site who can give you better advice on your post than I. I just want you to know that I read your post. I am listening. Sometimes, I hope it helps to know that there's someone "out there" who is willing to just listening. I know you will find a way over this "bump in the road" on you WLS journey. I realize that it's a huge bump, but with enough support and determination I am confident that you will succeed. Best wishes and prayers going up for you, my friend. 1 Elizabeth21 reacted to this
VSGAnn2014 12,992 Posted May 5, 2016 I would urge you to seek professional help sooner rather than later -- and if you can find a therapist who also works with bariatric patients that would be a great resource for you. Very best wishes to you. And welcome to the board. 1 Acts238girl reacted to this

Drinking may or may not be a serious problem. How much do you drink, how often do you drink, what situations cause you to want to drink, what makes you stop? wlspt6602 5 Posted May 5, 2016 (edited) Well I married a man that drinks every day and I don't think I realized that in the beginning...or maybe love is blind. Now I want to drink several times a week. This is not like me at all.I do feel that I need help, but don't want that out in the medical field since I am in the medical field.I know that sounds like an excuse...maybe it is,????? VSGAnn2014 12,992 Posted May 5, 2016 Surely, you know about HIPAA? Any therapist you see is bound by HIPAA rules.
Sharon1964 2,530 Posted May 5, 2016 Find something to replace drinking with. Knitting, crochet, cross stitch, competitive bubble gum blowing, whatever.

There wouldn't be any way for someone to know you were there because of alcohol. I understand your concern being in the medical field - you seem to know someone wherever you go. For your health and well-being, don't let embarrassment, shame or fear stop you from getting help! Good luck!
Amylou 206 Posted May 5, 2016 Try finding an AA meeting in your area. It is SO COMMON for WLS folks to turn to alcohol. You are not alone. 1 PdxMan reacted to this

iwanttobethin 21 Posted May 6, 2016 Definitely get help. I to work in the medical field and I had a coworker that had RNY and shr ended up becoming an alcoholic. She ended up losing her Xray license. Definitely not something to mess around with. Sent from my SM-G900V using the BariatricPal App
