Ignorance, Senility, or NSV?

I am 6 weeks out today and I feel fantastic. So much so that I just registered for my first ever half marathon in November. WTF? I don't run. A killer could be chasing me and I'd just lay down.

To think just a few short weeks ago I was an emotional wreck and kicking myself for going through with the surgery, and now here I am feeling better than ever and registered for a freaking half marathon.

Never in a million years did I think this could be my life.

THANK YOU VSG!!!

Wow! GO you!! Can't wait to hear of your progress!

I am not a runner but have always admired how free people looked when they ran. I actually "ran" (i.e. slow jog) on my treadmill a couple of times and outside a couple of times yesterday during my walk. (I'm talking maybe 30 seconds to a minute and then walked again.) Mostly I was amazed that I could do it at all and that felt good - except for all the jiggly bits! :D Think I may not try that again until I have been all nipped and tucked! ;)

Ok that's it. You inspired me Andrea72. I'm going to find a run and run it. I've always thought those mud runs look like a blast because A. You run through mud!!! And B. They drink beer at the end!!!! Sadly my years of college rugby have left me with a knee replacement, back surgery and foot reconstruction. I still have those awesome memories though... Oooo the after parties..... Oh sorry where was I? Yes!!! A run!!! Is it bad I really just want to do it so i can wear the t shirt to my kids swim meets like all the other fit cool moms? I'm so shallow. Sigh.

I love you all like brothers...

Albeit brothers with boobs and certain levels of inappropriate hotness...

So I feel I can speak my mind...

And here 'tis...

If you lot can't find something better to do in mud than run thru it then I think you need to take a good, long look at yourselves...

I know when I think of you lot and mud, running thru it is THE LAST thing that comes to mind...

I apologise for hijacking your post...

But not for my thoughts...

They're much fun... :D

Thanks all. I just really can't believe I feel as great as I do.

I also have all of you to thank for the advice, inspiration and much needed laughter during some of my darkest days.

I'm scared as hell, but the whole purpose of my surgery was to stop existing, and start living.

And @@Daisee68 I too just started. Last week during a walk I felt like running. I did. Didn't make it far but I did it and I promised myself I would keep it up.

This afternoon I went for a very uncoordinated walk/jog and it felt good. I even heard clapping. Turns out the clapping was my ass cheeks but for those few seconds I was inspired. So inspired I came home and signed up.

Again, it might be the sleeve helping, but if it wasn't for all of you and your inspiration, this would never be possible!!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
