Is It True About Drinking With Meals?

Recommended Posts

Drinking with meals washes the food through. Not only will you get hungry again sooner, but your body doesn't have as long to absorb the nutrients from the food. You can take tiny sips if you absolutely must, but it is better to break yourself of the habit. Make sure you are well-hydrated before you eat and don't drink until at least 45 minutes after your meal.

Yeah it is true as I tested the theory. If I follow instructions a cup of food will fill me up for a while. Not drinking with meal even like cream potatoe Soup. I can however wash down much more! Herein lies the reasoning for our surgery we can eat less and stay full longer,,,,,

I've never heard that one. I agree that drinking with meals washes the food through more quickly, which means you won't feel full as long. I don't think the absorption of nutrients is a factor for Bandsters though.

i was told that if you drink whilst eating, the liquid would sit on the food and you would be more likely to PB, but also knew it was because it would push food down, and Water food down, making the band pretty useless!, so dont drink whilst eating....(says me, the one who does it all the time!!!) ....(ill try to stop..!!)

No question, drinking with meals allows you to eat more. And it's a surprisingly hard habit to break! I didn't even think about it beforehand, because if you'd asked me I'd have said I don't usually drink during meals. Turns out I do! And I miss it, but the hour passes quickly enough and then I'm ready to drink yet more Water.< /p>

Drinking with meals is a no-no!

My good friend, who was banded on the same day I was, ran into serious trouble because of drinking with meals. He has stretched his esophagus!!! The doctor said it was partly because of drinking too much fluids with his meals.

I used to want to drink with meals all the time and my mind would fight it...........now I think differently.

I still have a small "sip" of Water after my meal, just to get my mouth and throat wet.

It helps to resist the urge to drink with meals if you drink a lot of Water before you eat, in my experience.

It's tempting to drink with meals, but I don't think it's usually worth it.

I must say that it seems like with SOME foods (like grains and bread), drinking helps me feel fuller because it makes the food expand in my pouch. Of course, that also means that it can make it HURT if you've eaten a lot and then drink.

I was in agony with sweat pouring down my face for like 5 or 10 minutes one night when I drank right after eating some pretzels.

The pretzels expanded from the water apparently.

Somehow, hiccuping made the pain go away all of a sudden thank God, but I don't want to go through that ever again. :)

So be careful! If you need to moisten your mouth, you might want to try swishing some water in your mouth and then spit it out.

This was a hard one for me too. But do not drink for 45 minutes before a meal and until after 45 minutes after a meal. It does wash the food through and if you eat and then drink too quickly it does make you PB....I know from experience. Now I don't ever have a cup near me when I am eating.

I was told no drinks 5 minutes before I eat and 15 minutes after I eat.

This was THE hardest thing for me to get used to. I used to drink a liter or two with each meal I had.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
