Having trouble getting enough calories in a day

Recommended Posts

Looking for some food advice/ideas to help me reach my 600-800 calories I should be getting 11 weeks post op. On a good day I'm around 500 calories. I'm at the point where I can have 2-3oz of Protein but I struggle even getting 1.5 oz . So far today I had my Protein Shake for Breakfast. 116 calories....for lunch...1 oz grilled chicken, 1 oz fresh mozzarella and half a small banana for a total of 144 calories. Not sure what to eat! Any advice would be greatly appreciated

Kristenle....thanks for the advice....I'm not having much trouble with Protein but I'm getting it by drinking Protein Shakes ...I want to be able to reach my protein goal without relying on the shakes eventually [emoji2]. My nutritionist had told me she doesn't want my body to get use to living on such few calories..She wants me to work my way up to 1000-1200 calories a day eventually [emoji106]

Can you have oatmeal? I occasionally make the weight control oatmeal and add Protein powder an/or PB2.

My latest concoction is a packet of carnation no sugar added breakfast essentials chocolate and chocolate PB2. You probably won't be able to eat it all at once.

I live on tuna, cottage cheese, Greek yogurt, turkey, cheese, etc. To up calories try adding a piece of fresh fruit, berries, etc.

You just may need to eat more frequently.

At four weeks, my dietician told me to add healthy fats -- nuts and avocados to help increase my calorie intake.

Yes, you need to be getting in at least 80 grams of Protein a day!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
