So Yesterday morning I arrived at the doctor's office. A short Nutrition breakdown, LOTS of paperwork signing (Yes, I will pay if my insurance doesn't, yes, I agree to a full blow cut down the middle of my stomach if the planned laparoscopic surgery plan needs to be changed.) a short Powerpoint discussion on what's going to happen, and a few other hurried consultations - oh, and of course, buying the shakes/snacks/soups that my doctor requires after surgery (my doc doesn't like the Protein combinations in Premier Protein shakes, and I've agreed to drink the alternate - at least in the beginning).

Then I was off to the hospital for a pre-op meeting there and a few tests - EKG, Chest xray and another blood draw - dang we give a lot of blood for this! LOL

And of course, because I like torture, I also had my second eye cataract surgery later that afternoon LOL

My pre-op diet doesn't look too bad on paper... first 7 days goes like this:

Breakfast - 8oz shake

Snack - one of the bars I bought here's a link: http://www.bariatricdirect.com/vanilla-crisp-bar-p/barfluffyvanilla.htm?utm_content=Fluffy%20Vanilla%20Crisp%20Bar&gclid=CJeY14nhwMwCFYIBaQodee8AVg&Click=1504&utm_source=ShoppingFeeds&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=GoogleShopping&utm_term=BARFLUFFYVANILLA OR Protein Drink like this: http://www.bariatricdirect.com/peach-mango-drink-p/condrinkpeach.htm

Lunch: 2-4 ounces lean meat, 1/2C steamed non-starchy veggies OR 1C salad (lowfat dressing)

Snack - another bar or drink

dinner - 1/2 shake 2-4 ounces lean meat, 1/2 C steamed veggie or 1C salad

Snack - bar or drink

Unlimited sugar free Jello or popsicles

The last 2 days are all liquids... shakes, drinks, broth, plus the popsicles and Jello.< /span>

Nothing after midnight on the 15th of May.

Then I show up on Monday, May 16th to go to sleep and wake up on the Loser's Bench! I can't wait!!!!

Now I'm wondering when the whiney part will start! LOL

Congrats and best to you. My visit was Monday for May 17 surgery. I agree there is a lot to take in, and the part about open procedure option made me nervous. I am having a revision an had open last time and did not want to go that route again, but with my past WLS problems, what ever it takes. I felt much better talking to surgeon and PA that they have done many of these revisions, and only with excessive bleeding (3% of time) do they have to go open.

We are almost surgery date twins!!! I really hope it goes well for you too! If I end up with a full blown cut down my stomach, I'm getting a tattoo of a zipper to cover it! hahaha!

It seems it takes so long, then BAM... it's here! Good luck!!

Another thing I do if someone asked about my long scar is say it is from a Shark Attack.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
