@@foxhound1214 I'm sorry yes Rochester, NY

I like to plan everything ahead as well.. I am trying to make sure that I have everything that I need as well as be completely prepared for what's to come ( liquids only purée stage etc) I have GERD so I think RNY is my option.

@@AmysShrinking and @Anilyn I am 64 and have struggled with depression all my life. I'm currently very stable on Cymbalta. My research shows that I should be OK continuing with Cymbalta after surgery - but until I live it, it's hard to believe. Keeping fingers crossed for all of us

Does anyone know if it is standard to have a drain after RNY bypass. I am sure my surgeon will cover that at preop, but it seems like not every surgeon places a drain. Or maybe not everyone mentions this. Thanks for any heads up. I guess it doesn't matter either way, but I am trying to mentally prepare as well as possible and the thought of a indwelling drain makes me a little more nervous.

@@cb11 I don't think a JP drain is standard for this surgery.

Ok, good to hear. I just saw a few post recently where RNY ppl mentioned their jp drains being removed day 2 or at post op 1 week visit and my surgeon never mentioned this.

My RNY is June 14th, 3 days after my birthday! I'll be on my pre-op diet then but I've been following a similar diet for the past month so it's not such a shock. I can Celebrate next birthday when I'm healthier! I'm freaking out about getting my Protein and Water in post op. But I'm a bit of a planner so the unknown scares me. Nothing else is phasing me. I'm so excited !!

We are surgery buddies! Mine is also June 14th, also. Exciting, but I'm still nervous.

In the homestretch now. I can't believe it and it doesn't seem real but in 9 days, I'll be post op! I feel ready but not ready too. WLS class on Tuesday night. Pre Op appts all day on Thursday. I'm working over the weekend of Memorial Day. I'll finalize my organizational stuff next Tuesday and then surgery on Wed. Suddenly I feel like I have a ton to do and time is running out!

@@AmysShrinking I'm not sure what to pack either. I was going to scroll through some other threads here and see if I could find that topic. I don't want to bring a lot of extra stuff that I won't need.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
