I have Cigna and am actually still waiting for the approval. My doctor's office supposedly submitted the paperwork to them on 4/18, although Cigna says they didn't get it until 4/22. They had some back and forth since then and the review officially started 4/26. Cigna told me they have a 15 business day response period, although they are typically much faster than that.

Cigna requires you to see a doctor for 6 months prior to surgery.

They actually changed their policy and now only require 3 months supervised diet. They also used to require a sleep study, but that was another thing that changed. Thank goodness! Hoping to get my approval this week.

Seriously? Wow...I'm 3.5 months into mine so I guess I may be ready to go sooner than I thought. That of course is if I can ever get schedule for psych eval and upper GI!

I have cigna as well, the entire process took me one month, mainly because they were lagging and overloaded it sounded like, but it was submitted on April 14, then for some reason cancelled, they resubmitted on may 2nd, and approved just this monday! Surgery is today for me, woo! As long as you meet the minimum requirements ie BMI or health issue, you should be approved just fine. Best of luck!

I have AZ Cigna (which is a 6 month requirement), it doesn't say anything about having to lose x amount of weight, etc. How much did you all lose? I'm scared because I've only lost 5, and my final weigh in is Thursday. I don't want to get denied

I think I lost 4 then gained 2 then lost 2 to 3 and maintained. I was rough but I was told not to worry over a few lbs either way cuz it can be Water weight, clothing etc

My doctor told me to lose 20lbs. I gained some after that so I still have 8 lbs to go. I plan on losing more if I can.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
