Is anyone else freaking out about the Hair loss factor? Or does anyone have any input or advice about their experience with how much hair loss they've had. I've heard horror stories and I'm kinda panicking.

Also, I'm scared of the extra skin. I need to lose 80-90 lbs. I'm so scared I'm gonna be miserable after weight loss due to extra skin. Is there a good way to avoid a bunch of saggy skin? Any advice on either topic would be greatly appreciated!!

I started out with very thick hair and I still have very thick hair. If I experienced any thinning, it is barely noticeable. I think a few things helped:

1) I got my hair cut short not long after surgery. It was long enough that I could donate it if I went short, so I took the plunge. I love it.

2) I have worked diligently to get at least 100 grams of Protein every day.

3) I drink a lot of water/fluid (at least 64 oz a day).

4) I take all of my Vitamins and supplements as directed.

5) I try to eat clean, whole foods as much as possible and I eat good fats.

I may just be lucky. Even if you experience Hair loss, it should be temporary.

All of these things will also help your skin. In addition, using a good moisturizer and taking care of your skin will help.

I have very thin fine hair and fortunately I did not lose any. I started using Biotin Shampoo and taking supplements a month before I had surgery. I don't know if that is why I didn't or if I just got lucky. I think there are several factors that go into the skin issue age, heredity and how and where you are carrying the weight. While I am not all that thrilled with my wrinkly arms and saggy boobs but I'll take them over the extra weight.

My hair loss has finally come to a stop for the most part. I didn't loose length just thickness. I have heard lemon and lime Water is good for minimizing loose skin.. of course not all of it. I have bought organic lemon and lime juice that I just add to Water and I drink a good portion of it daily. So far so good.

Take Biotin if you are very worried. I have not had much hair loss. I've always been a shedder and it has not gotten worse post op.

skin on the other hand.....

I have hypothyroidism, so I'm quite used to losing hair and hope it doesn't bother me too much. I do take Biotin daily, have for years. I'll be interested to see how this particular thing affects me.

I haven't had any hair loss yet, and as for loose skin? I'd rather deal with that than the extra weight. I do plan for a boob lift after I get to goal, not sure, but will probably also need a panniculectomy.

I would eat eggs, they are rich in Protein and Biotin. If you'd rather have a food source rather than supplement.

you can also do an egg and honey hair mask, there are tons of recipes online. I'm not really worried about it. I'd rather loose some hair and have saggy skin than be fat. I do use coconut oil on my skin after my bath, I float the jar in the warm Water and then baste myself with the hot oil. it feels LOVELY. I've only lost 1/3 of my excess weight but so far only a little bit of sag. We'll see.

My hair fell out in what seemed like chunks.. But not one person noticed. I only had one comment and that was "did you get a new straightener? Your hair looks silky smooth" I'll take that comment! I take Biotin 10000 once a day , I have a lot of regrowth happening now, I'm going into my 6th month post op so it's been slowing down.

The loose skin makes me nervous too especially at my age (54) . I moisturize like crazy and recently started to think about compression wraps. People say they work (not on extreme cases) so I may try it..but really the excitement of dropping all this weight have far outweighed the worry of loose skin

Silica you can get it at most health food stores that carry Vitamins it is a clear Water looking liquid you get a nice size bottle for about 17.00 it is way better than Biotin. My daughter is a Vitamins manager and has had a lot of education in stuff like that. It worked great for my sisters who had the surgery several years ago.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
