cheneisew 52 Posted September 1, 2016 My BMI when I met with the doctor for the first time was exactly 35, but I didn't have any diagnosed comorbid conditions, though I suspected I had sleep apnea. My reason for wanting to do the sleeve was because of my history of breast cancer. My doctor got me set up with a sleep specialist, but made it clear I *COULD NOT* lose any weight until after I was weighed in for my sleep study, or I would not qualify for surgery. However, he also did not want me to gain any weight either. Oh yes, I have very severe OSA and am basically dying in my sleep 100+ times a night. I spend 80% of my sleep time with my oxygen sats below 82%. Nice! No wonder I'm freaking exhausted all.the.time!!! Anyway, I just have one more visit with my dietician then I will be submitted for insurance approval next month. I'm hoping to have my surgery done in early November. Well I'm at 36 with mild sleep apnea and was recently approved. My insurance is bcbsnj Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G920A using the BariatricPal App
loveyck2 0 Posted September 3, 2016 @@cheneisew what kind of sleep study did you have to get diagnosed with mild sleep apnea? I have the same insurance in CA. I just assumed they wouldn't cover unless it was major sleep apnea. I'm looking into Mexico but would rather not have to go there. LadyLazarus 0 Posted September 8, 2016 Whoops accidentally hit send before I was finished. I'm so very proud of my consistent losses! I don't weigh myself very often, eat whatever I like, and have finally managed to feel what it's like to be a "normal" person that eats what they'd like, but within a reasonable (to unreasonably tiny ) portion without freaking out over gained weight. And it's all thanks to the restriction. My goal for Oct 1 is to be at 145. My goal weight is 135, and UGW would be 125. I haven't started exercising but will begin soon now that I feel that the closer I get to goal, the harder I'll have to work at it. So excited! robsey2021 4 Posted June 13, 2020 (edited) I am having surgery July 14th-not telling anoyone other than a few close trustworthy friends. I am nervous as heck and have been in a terrible mood-this is all fear and weird psychological stuff that goes way way deep. I was obese as a teen, lost the weight at 17 and stayed in normal range until age 44 when it started piling on-i have dieted, exercised, worked out with a trainer and most I was able to lose was to get out of obese and in overweight zone. I'm 5'4 and 1/2, small frame and weigh 182, and lowest I've gotten to was 165. This is twice since my first consult for surgery in July 2017. The problem is the weight came back both times. I am turning 50 on July 7th and I want to this surgery to help me get into normal BMI range. I want my life back. I know this is not going to solve all my problems and know that it wont work unless I change my lifestyle. I would love to hear more feedback and long term stories-my biggest fear is that I'll not lose any weight . Edited June 13, 2020 by robsey2021
lori040981 0 Posted June 13, 2020 It’s my first time using this forum not even sure that I’m posting correctly. I scheduled my surgery for next month. I’m also low BMI and I’m freaking out about all the Hair loss and excess skinI keep reading about. Did anyone start taking Biotin or collagen before the surgery? If so, there are so many options. Which do I buy?
Man With No Answers 6 Posted June 15, 2020 I was low BMI also. I am 5’10 but weighed 265. I fluctuate between 185 and 190 now. Your stomach helps you over rule your brain. I can only share my experience. I also had read about Hair loss and decided, in the end, to throw caution to the wind. I can say that I experienced NO hair loss that I could see. The decision to have the sleeve was absolutely the best decision I made in my life. Good luck to you and put your trust in your instincts.
