I am 15 days post op and have done fine. I have been on soft foods with no issues other then I am starving. I eat and am full. When it gets to be close to an appropriate eating time I am raging hungry. It comes on fast and fierce. It is crazy. When I am hungry I am starving. Is this normal? Will it get better? I don't want to start snacking. Because it comes on so fast it surprised me.

I'm also post op day 15! However my experience is the opposite and unexpected for me. I only felt hungry twice, and each time I stayed awake several hours past when I first felt sleepy. I'm barely starting on pureed diet even though my surgeon gave me the go ahead on POD 9 (0.5 cup of mashed potatoes was so painful I went back to full liquid until POD 12). Because I don't feel hungry, I have to force myself to eat two to four 0.5 cup meals. I told my surgeon I don't feel hungry, and he pretty much said to come in the office for fills whenever I do feel hunger. My first fill appointment is in 3.5 weeks.

You poor thing. I am petrified of potatoes or anything starchy. Cottage cheese and veggie meatballs (I am a vegetarian) have been my friend. They crew up and crumble better then meat so I think that helps me.

I was like that after my surgery because my Dr doesn't not put any Fluid in the band when he places it like some Drs do, and now with some of the swelling going away the hunger is going to be coming back. Once you get a fill it will get better and the hunger will most def go away. if you find that you are getting hungry drink some low calorie liquids or Water to hold you over until your next meal.

Thanks! So my fill next week hopefully will clear it up.

I had my surgery 8 days ago, and my doc said he filled it when operating. My operation went extraordinarily good. No pains at all. No vomiting and no sickness at all. First few days I could only eat very small amount (liquids), but now I'm starving and can consume very large amounts of almost everything (liquid/ very soft mashed). The hunger hits me and I starve, and I feel

I desperately have to put something in my mouth, just like before the surgery ! Is that normal !? I can eat 500 mg of Soup without feeling pain or restriction... This is making me very confused now !

I'm about 36 hours out of surgery and in the last hour my stomach is rumbling and hurts is this normal? Had a very normal operation with no big side effects just a little extra bleeding. Has anyone else had this happen?

Are you still in the hospital? You need to question your medical team about any pain this soon out from surgery. There's far too many complications possible to chance getting advice from others. It very well might be normal but you have a medical team for a reason - have them confirm it's normal. Good luck!

Did they give you any medication for stomach acid (PPI)? It's most likely that and just your stomach healing. If you didn't get something already - give your Dr a call.

I am two weeks and I just recently started getting hungry again and can eat bigger portions. I was advised this would happen though. They told me weight loss will not start until after my first fill one month after the surgery. This is healing time.

I'm hanging on to that...

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
