amandasue 27 Posted May 3, 2016 I had complications (a leak) back in January-March had stents in. It was horribly traumatic. I was malnourished to the point I couldn't lift my head up and in so much pain the pain meds wouldn't touch it. Combine that with vomitting up anything I took in orally every day 3-6 times a day for 2 months...UGH! SUPRISINGLY, once the stents came out and I was able to intake nutrition (Protein shakes, liquids, soft foods) my body great stronger and stronger every day. Took approx 1 1/2 months to feel some what "normal" again. So now I have had an upper respiratory infection for 22 days. I've taken everything over the counter the Dr told me too (Flonase, Mucinex, Robintussin, Zyrtec, etc). I even had antibiotics for 10 days because I had an ear infection so bad my drum ruptured. So after a 2-day reprieve....I am back with the same funk again.... As if I haven't missed enough work or time with my kids already this year! Anyone else experience a low immune system post complications? PS I'm taking all of my baritatic Vitamins and getting in enough protein!
smg 471 Posted May 4, 2016 @@amandasue Sorry to hear about your complications...sounds like you've been through quite a bit. I haven't experienced any issues yet, although I just had my surgery on April 15. I would just keep doing what you're doing...sounds to me like you're listening to your medical team, and doing what they're asking you to do. The only thing I would probably ask is that with so much vomiting, you may not be absorbing as much of your Vitamins as you need to (just a thought)? My NUT recommended some Multivitamin and B-complex Patches if we either had trouble with pills or had issues keeping things down....maybe they'll help? I would certainly ask your surgeon what they think before trying something new, but it might help. Congrats on losing 81 pounds so far!!! That's fantastic. Stay positive and keep working with your medical team...I hope things get better for you!!!
