What to expect

Recommended Posts

Hey all new here. I am a 46 year old male weighing in at 280 looking to get to 215 according to my doctor. My surgery is scheduled for Weds and I am a bit nervous as the day approaches. I am also having a hernia repair (the first sttempt failed) at the same time. So tell me honestly the good and the bad what can I expect the first few days? When will a normal routine begin and lastly what emotions and problems appeared as far as medical and emotional. I intend to keep a log I really want to be able to help others that come behind me and I figure if I keep a log then they may get a view from the patient as well as the doctor. Please let me know thanks:ranger:

The best way to answer your questions is to refer you to the area of the board where the monthly groups post. Go look at the recent posts from the July and August 07 bandsters and see what they are going through at this stage. This is the stage when people post a LOT, so your questions will definitely be answered there. Or go to any month's group...I'm in April 07....go look at the posts from April & May in our thread....then you can fast forward to August and see how we're all doing now that we've had a few fills! (Hint: we're all doing great!!)

Good luck to you and Welcome to LBT! :welcome:

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
