I am about 7 weeks out and I'm only getting about 520 calories a day. My weight loss has slowed way down and I think my body might be in starvation mode. About how many calories should I be getting right now?

Sounds pretty low to me...

I'll not put a number on what you should be on tho...

You're best of getting in touch with your/a nutritionist and seeing what they say...

Good luck mate...

Just offering my experience -- I was doing about 800 cals/day and 70 grams/protein at 7 weeks out. I see you're a male, so your calories / Protein might need to be higher.

I don't think that starving yourself is the right approach during WLS losing phases. So talk to your NUT / medical team and get their input. My own team convinced me to ramp up to 1,000 cals at the end of Month 4 and then to move up to 1,200 cals by the end of Month 6. I found that approach worked great for me, long-term.

And long-term results are what you're aiming for -- the ability to lose all your excess weight and to maintain it easily. You don't want to force your body's resting metabolic rate to go lower than it should by starving yourself.

Good luck!

I agree ... my numbers weren't so low. I'd need to pull a medical degree out of a hat before I would even consider telling you where you should be. That needs to come from your doc/NUT. However, I would be quite comfortable saying that you might want to reach out to one of them and have a conversation about this.

That sounds very low to me. Are you getting in all of your Protein? What is your Protein target? Your calories are relative to your protein. Since my protein target is 100 grams, at 520 calories I wouldn't be eating anything but Protein shakes.

Follow your program. Focus on getting in all of your protein and fluids, avoid added sugars, starches, and fried foods, and take your Vitamins and supplements as directed and your calories should fall into place.

If in doubt, talk to your NUT.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
