I've been stalled for 1 month - 5 months post op.

Recommended Posts

I've been at the same weight for 1 month as of today. My high weight was 256. My surgery was Nov 16th 2015. As of a April 2nd I weighed 184. And there I sit still.

I've been patiently frustrated. I've tired small tweaks here and there. I finally contacted the surgeon today. His advice? Change from cardio to strength training to shock the body.

Does any one have experience with this approach? I am definitely going to give it a whirl but its wasn't the answer I was expecting. Thanks in advance.

My NUT said that sometimes the body is just happy at a certain weight and it wants to stay there. He also seconded changing up the exercise routine and working out a little harder to challenge myself. Give it a try the only thing you have to lose is WEIGHT! ;)

changing something helps. i would try increasing Water, decreasing carbs and changing exercise. What worked for me was going from longer duration/moderate intensity to a shorter duration, higher intensity workouts.

Each time I hit a stall ... and there have been a few in the past year ... I not only change things up with exercise and push the fluids, but I also avoid the scale like the plague. I have found the more frustrated and depressed I get, the more I fixate on the stall instead of the changes to help jump start me again. It has helped a bit, and so did the exercise shake-ups. Plus I felt more energized when I changed up my routine.

Good luck!!

Thanks all. I am hoping this will work. I get mininal 85 oz of Water. I get on average 85 grams of Protein. I don't eat carbs except what I get from the small amount of veggies I eat. I don't eat fruit. Calories wise I'm between 900 and 1100. I'm going to increase my Water and do some strength training exercises I found online. I hope I can break through this soon. As much as I try not to sweat it, it does become a little saddening and maddening when you work work work with no result. I've had a random losing pattern, lose a few lbs then hold steady for a week or more but this is bananas. Thanks for sharing ideas and thoughts.

I found that changing calorie amounts helped break a stall. I would eat more than usual one day and less than normal the next. Your body can get used to a set number of calories and just sit there. Good Luck!

That's great! Did you change up your exercise routine or diet?

Thanks. I increased my calories and also increased my work out. I tried to do what the dr recommended and do weight strengthening but I couldn't get into it. So, I compromised sort of. I cranked up the resistance on the elliptical and started carrying 5 lb hand weights while on it. I look forward to increasing the weights. My arms needed help anyway and I feel good about this.

It could be a coincidence and my stall just broke on its own but either way I will take it.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
