So in an hour and a half, I'll be about 5 days post-op. I'm still having gas and some bloating. I was put on full liquids my first day home, and I'm proud to say I managed 89g Protein through a premier shake (split into 3 servings) and sf pudding with two scoops pure whey isolate split into 5 servings and made with Fairlife extra Protein, lactose-free milk for 16 grams each. I had a shake then a pudding, then a shake, then a pudding... It took like 12 hours, but I got it all in. I did even better today by switching some of my Water with the milk. As a treat, I had some strained cream of potato Soup, which is heaven after weeks of artificially sweetened crap being the only source of protein in my life. I stick meals in little 4 oz condiment cups with lids and they're right there for me to grab. I've been walking a lot. I'm on a blood thinner, an acid reducer, and dilaudid when necessary as well as supplements. I wait the recommended times before and after eating to drink, and otherwise I sip all day. I'm afraid of becoming dehydrated.

My only issues are these: 1. I have yet to experience a full feeling and I'm not willing to push it beyond 4 oz for fear of hurting myself.

2. I get pains in my solar plexus area which roil around like gas and I burp, but I don't know if it's just there from surgery still, or if I'm creating it. It's quite bothersome and it's almost constant unless I've eaten something heavier like the pudding.

Is it possible I'm hungry? I don't feel like I could be hungry, but I'm eating on a schedule because I don't have a particular drive to eat other than that I don't want to cannibalize my muscle or lose my hair lol. I'm taking diligent care to get enough protein. Maybe I'm eating wrong and creating this gas?

You seem to be doing very good so far! I'm 12 days post op and can't seem to meet my Protein goal, all I want to do is drink Water.

I think you have to find what works for you. Try different combinations and see how your body reacts.

On another note I'm going to try these premier Protein shakes and see if I will better luck

You're doing great. Many sleevers don't feel "full" while they're still on liquids. Believe me when I tell you that will change when you get to solids. Additionally, I find that "full" feels different with the sleeve than without.

The burping is probably from postop swelling in your sleeve. Try taking your liquids and shakes a bit more slowly and see whether that helps. As the swelling goes down, the bufping goes away.

Good luck and congratulations!

Sorry, I didn't even get notifications for your responses. Anyways, it was that I was drinking a little too fast and it was causing gas on my chest. I've slowed down and I'm taking my time, and it's much better.

Thanks for responding. And ld33, they're not super delicious, but they pack a decent amount of Protein and they're tolerable. I use them to make pudding as well.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
