Anyone here have their sleeve surgery performed by Dr Ortiz? Did he and or the anesthesiologist, listen to your concerns regarding nausea and pain? I'm going June 30th for mine and I'm beyond scared and nervous! I worry about waking up in pain and nauseated/vomiting. I'm doing my best to let everyone know upfront that with prior surgeries (in the states) I was given something so I wouldn't wake up sick.

I've always woken up nauseous from anesthesia and I made this very clear to Dr. Jimenez (the cardiologist that does your preop health survey) as well as the anesthesiologist. They definitely listened because I woke up pain free and with no nausea for the first time ever. I never needed a single pain pill. YEAH!

In fact I was so impressed with my recovery that 2 years later I contacted Dr. Martinez and he had the anesthesiologist email me his protocol to give to another anesthesiologist when I had my gallbladder removed here in the US. Unfortunately one of the anti nausea medications they used at OCC is not available in the US, because it is a form of THC. So they ended up using injectable anesthesia on me for my gallbladder instead of the usual inhalant. But that worked, too.

Thank you so so much!! I pray I get the same results when I wake up and I'll be talking to everyone again when I get there. Last words before going under will be, "nausea meds!!!" Lol

I had my surgery at OCC with Ariel Ortiz and I definitely felt "heard" with all of my pre and post-op concerns with all of the members of the surgical team. I didn't have the same concerns as you about anesthesia, but I had a good long talk with the nutritionist, the cardiologist, Dr. Ortiz, and the anesthesiologist before my surgery. Plus the techs that did things like my blood work and putting in my IV were great.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
