My Dad knows I had surgery and still asks how my "diet" is going. I tell him I'm not on a diet. Mom "gets" it but he is still confused. I try to explain but just accept that he is well meaning and move on.

Pre op due to be sleeved next month. My dad and aunt said they just do not understand the surgery if I am losing weight on pre op diet. Like have I ever kept it off?? It is my job to take care of myself hopefully they can figure it out. It is not a diet but a complete lifestyle change. Good luck!!!

I can't speak to gastric bypass, but in my case, VSG has been a miracle procedure. My goal was 190 and I blew through it in less than 5 months.

My wife tells me to stop losing, but she wants to lose weight and I'm the home chef, so I'm eating what I cook for her.

After a stall at 187 due to parties and eating out, I lost 5 lbs this week and I'm at 182 (down 99 lbs).

Don't fret your success, just watch out for slider foods and exercise, the pounds will melt away...

Reading this makes me wonder why so many keep it a secret. I just had my sleeve done April 20. I am blasting all of it on fb. I made this decision with a heavy heart but I knew I had to do it. We should all stand proud of what we've done because there is no shame in saving your own life. Love to all of you!

It isn't about shame, it's about personal privacy. Huge difference.

From my experience I'm being more cautious about who I tell. I had the lap band 6 years ago and lost about 30 pounds (from 192 to 162). I was very happy with the results but everyone else I knew (especially my father in law) would ask me how I felt about getting something that didn't work. Uhhhhh.... It did work. I was happy. Anywhoo the band broke and I regained (up to 177) and got the sleeve. I'm keeping my mouth shut because God forbid I don't get down to a preteen size I'm sure those people are going to comment AGAIN. I have no aspirations of being the size of a preteen. I want to be able to play tennis with my family again without huffing all around the court. I may use this, I read it on a board the other day... "Oh my weight loss? How? Acupuncture and hypnosis". I'm practicing saying it in the mirror with a straight face. ;) Good luck to all, chins up, don't let the silly comments ruin any of your journey. (Now if I can just heed my own advice... ;) ;) )

Yes, it is none of their business, but it still doesn’t feel good when they say that. I guess you could say “Yes, it is on my diet.” If you feel the need to explain more, and they seem to be listening, you could explain that “I am allowed to eat this because I am learning to incorporate real foods in reasonable amounts in my diet.”

I'm pretty much with you, I'm still pre-op (8 more days!) but I started a blog and I share it on Facebook. To me it's kinda the same as my PCOS, there are a lot of people out there who are completely ignorant about it and have no idea what we're going through, so I'm trying to educate folks. I'm not a particularly shy person, I can actually be quite blunt (when people have asked me why we don't have kids, my standard response is "my ladyparts are broke"), so sharing what's going on doesn't bother me. I think if I was having the surgery out of some sense of vanity, just to be skinny/look better, I might be more reserved about it. But I'm having this surgery to be able to have kids and to save my life, and like you said there is no shame in that!

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
