Faith without works?

Recommended Posts

Or am I pushing it? I have been struggling with my weight for as long as I can remember but it has been almost a year since I was told that I'm going to lose the weight (prophecy.) I'm actively researching WLS and am praying asking if this is what i should be doing and my appointment with my PCP is in 2 days. I haven't really gotten an answer but I want to be correct in my decisions.

What should I do?

Now, I'm not big on the "faith/prophecy/praying" type stuff...

I'm not against it...

It's just not my thing...

However, here's my take on your post...

You were 'told' you were gonna lose weight...

You've been researching WLS...

You've made an appointment...

You say you've received no "answer"...

Riddle me this...

You say that you've not received an "answer"...

Is it at all possible that you're overlooking the answer?

What if the fact that you're still researching and making appointments IS the answer...

Perhaps, if you weren't supposed to be taking this direction, you'd have been sent a "sign"..

From what I know of such "answers" or "signs", they're not always a case of black and white...

So maybe rather than looking for an obvious "sign", put a little faith in YOURSELF and go with your heart..

Is that possible?

Of course, I know nuthin' about nuthin'...

I'm just some guy who was brought up to believe...

Whether or not I still believe is irrelevant...

I may be a little out of touch with faith related stuff...

But I reckon I might have a point...

All the best to you @@ecoreen94

I just don't see how my researching is an answer. Sure waiting for an obvious sign can happen but may not. But I just don't want to go through this and have to hear later that I did it alone. Of course that has a lot to do with the way I look at the Lord. I'm going of course to my appointment and I guess I'll see what happens. Maybe I should go elsewhere for my answers...

Thanks anyway guys!

Just take the next step. The one in front of you.

Pray and keep exploring, and asking questions.

It is a journey. You do not have to have all the answers.

For me, if I pray and seek truly seek God's will, things will work out.

Don't get discouraged! I asked God very early in my journey to show me whether WLS was for me, and He did. But it wasn't overnight. I asked for roadblocks if it was not His will, and the process kept going smoothly. I admire you for asking for guidance in this because I think that is the most important thing.

I'm a little late to this party, but I do believe in the prophetic and waiting on answers, etc. Let me ask you this. If your gall bladder, or appendix, etc. were giving you trouble would you wait for a 'sign' or 'answer' to seek medical help and have it surgically remedied? I questioned having the sleeve surgery in the beginning too. And then I thought to myself, I trust medical professionals in other areas to take the knowledge that God has placed in them to 'fix' me, so why wouldnt I trust them to 'repair' my stomach and do something that can make me a healthier person? I have ZERO regrets in that decision! ZERO! I hope that you have decided to pursue the necessary steps to a healthier you, whether they involved surgery, lifestyle or whatever avenue you felt lead to pursue! God Bless!

Thank you so much. I really needed this today!! Yesterday I spent the day crying in school because I still wasn't sure. But now I'm only two weeks away from surgery and I think this is what I should be doing. I know I want a healthier lifestyle but this would be my first major surgery. I guess it is scary because I've always hear why would someone do that to themselves. Thank you so much. This was truly an amazing journey and now look forward to become a part of the "loser bench"

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
