This. Is. Kicking. My. Butt! It's only been day 1 of three. How many calories should I be aiming for? I know the purpose is to shrink my liver, I know that is done by restricting calories and carbs. I think I'm right around 750 calories total. I'm tired, famished, and have a terrible headache. This being said I won't deviate from it. I'm very motivated to get this done, and the discomfort/effort is totally worth it. Also any helpful hints, beverages, etc you found helpful?

I am on day 2 and feel a bit better than on a first day, first day was miserable. I am doing about 800 cals... Another liver shrinking diet I have looked at was 1000 to 1200.

My dietitian told me not to go over 80 g of carbs per day. I am trying to concentrate on getting about 70 g of Protein a day, limiting fat, sugar and carbs. It's still hard today but a bit better than day 1. Hang in there, I am trying to be strong and stick with us as well.

It is hard, no doubt, but worth it. I stuck to right around 800 calories. One thing that helped me was having a cup of broth. Only about 15 calories, but it was great to have something warm and savory. My favorites were beef broth with mushrooms and onions (I was allowed 5 servings of fruit/veg a day, in addition to my shakes) and Swanson flavor infused broth. Mexican tortilla and chicken Tuscan were the best. Very comforting. Also, a cup of peppermint tea helped when my stomach was yuck.

1 more day! The hunger isn't so bad- but the fatigue is crazy! I am only allowed clear liquids- no Protein Shakes. I'd give my big toe for some Protein right now!

Protein Drinks are not on my list of approved foods. I had to start the diet on Saturday so I couldn't call my nutritionist, but I plan on calling first thing in the morning to ask!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
