My surgery was 5/29/15 so I'm coming up to a year post op. I expected to loose 100lbs but only lost around 55lbs. I basically haven't lost anything since November. I must be doing everything wrong and I just feel stuck and down on myself for not doing better. Need support.

I am so sorry you haven't had the results you would like. Without more information it's hard to offer suggestions.

What exactly are you doing?

Have you talked to your surgeon and/or your NUT about your concerns?

Are you attending support group meetings?

Are you following your program?

Are you tracking your food?

Are you getting in all of your Protein every day? What is your Protein target?

Are you drinking at least 64 oz of Fluid a day?

Are you taking your Vitamins and supplements as directed?

Are you avoiding starches, added sugars, and fried foods?

Are you eating slowly and mindfully?

Are you exercising?

Old habits regarding snacking have crept back in. I've just looked into attending a support group. I've never been a big drinker but I drink more Water than I ever have. My exercise is minimal. My doctor hasn't given much other than the normal eat certain foods and such speech. I don't have a Protein target. My doctors did everything with my surgery really fast so I didn't get much prep time nor did I get to see a nutritionist before my surgery like I was supposed to. I've been trying to see one for 4 months but they denied me bc I've already had the surgery. I'm just so nervous I'm going to gain the weight back if I let bad habits return.

That is terrible that they can't get you scheduled to see a NUT and that you weren't given good nutrition counseling.

My Protein target is 100 grams. What was your starting BMI? My surgeon set a target of 100 grams a day for all men and any women who started at a BMI of over 50. Everyone else has a target of 80 grams.

Getting enough protein is critical and may help with your need to snack.

I would suggest that you try to attend a support group meeting, focus on getting enough protein and fluids, and looking for an exercise that you can enjoy doing (maybe sign up for a dance class). My favorite exercise is swimming.

What are you eating? Are you drinking enough Water and getting your Protein, Vitamins? I've heard of good results from going back to post-op diet or the pouch test. I hope you get some answers. attachicon.gif tapatalk_1461183821060.jpeg

My starting BMI was around 37 I think. I was 250 and now I'm 195. I have been eating a lot of veggies for snacking and salad in a jar to help but need to boost my Protein. I sometimes forget how important it is.

that happen to me the old habits were sneaking back in I just had to make a choice gain weight or stopped the old habits and start with what I had done a year ago I had my surgery in apr2015 but lost 80 lbs because I always ate like a bird and use more calories then what I eat so if you want to lose stop all the nashing stop all the sugar stop all the ice cream and cake if you have to have it once every two weeks until you see your self dropping and exercise more I will not let myself be more than 175 lbs I am 5'11 and now a size 10-12 pants shorts a dress I refused to be a 18 - 20 ever again some times I forget to eat no big deal drink Water lot more if you can't no big deal food to me is just a necessity but very very little portions I might have a bite of a piece steak or hamburger and leave it too take home or wait ten minutes for the next bite depend who I am with I never never never eat macdonalds or any fast foods no fried foods either like I said I eat like a bird and very happy with the results gooduck

I think that keeping a food diary in real time - as you eat/drink things, and including calories, is a great way to raise your mindfullness of what you are taking in.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
