Got my Pancake Fix

Recommended Posts

I have tried recipes for Protein pancakes / waffles (even from Eggface website) and just never really found something I liked. I have never eaten pancakes or waffles very often, but now that I am eating Breakfast at home instead of drive through fast food :( I wanted to try real Breakfast food occasionally. Anyway, I found this package mix at Target - http://birchbenders.com/shop/protein/. They are really pretty good! I actually make mine in to waffle sticks (with a Baby Cakes waffle maker). I use sugar free maple Syrup and a couple of slices of bacon. Not something I would eat every day but nice for a change.

Just thought I would share....

Great info as I too was craving pancakes. I got the Heart Smart Bisquick and added powdered Protein. Nice to know I can get a pancake mix with Protein all ready in it. Will try this when the other is gone.

That's a nice find. Lately I've been using the Kodiak Cakes Protein pancake mix that I found at costco. Similar stats but made with whole grain wheat and oat flours which I prefer when I can find it, and I usually make it with milk or buttermilk to boost the Protein another 4-5g. Either would be a good thing to put into the Breakfast rotation. I usually add a couple of turkey bacon strips or chicken sausage links to get the protein load up around 30 g for the meal, or top them with a few berries and greek yogurt.

I bought the BirchBenders at Whole Foods a couple of months ago when it was on sale. I wasn't as fond of it for pancakes, but I enjoyed using it for pancake bites (using Eggface's recipe).

Wow.....I used to love pancakes.

These may come in handy when I overshoot my goal weight and am trying to maintain or add a couple pounds back on.

Right now the carb count in them is just not to my liking.

One day, however, I'll give these a try.

Have you ever tried pancake bites? They're great for when you're craving a bit of carbs but don't want to overdo. I like them plain, but the toppings she suggests won't rack up a lot of carbs.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
