Is this a stupid idea?

Recommended Posts

Hi all. I have my surgery on 31May. I'm so psyched. There does seem to be different approaches recommended. My doc wanted me on a 10 day liquid diet vacillating with a low carb diet even 3 months before surgery, before it was even approved by insurance. I couldn't do it. Now that insurance approved it and I have my surgery date, I'm doing liquid diet during day and protein/veggies for supper hoping to lose some belly weight and reduce liver size before surgery.

My pre-op diet was 2 weeks of Protein shakes 3 times a day with 1 Greek yogurt snack, sugar free Jello, and broth. I started early by drinking 1 shake per day for 3 days, then 2 shakes per day for 3 days, then the 3 per day just so I could work up to it. It was still difficult the first 3 days of it, but not as bad if I had not prepared. I'm 1 week post-op now, and still on this diet for 1 more week. I am going to be so glad to see pureed food lol. But I have lost 40 lbs so it pays off. Good luck, and I don't think it's stupid.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
