Weight submitted to insurance

This is exactly my question also.Does anyone know how federsl bcbs is? Day of appointment or surgery BMI

It would be great if there was a thread about this. I'm very confused by my insurer's requirements too.

Yes this is the perfect suggestion. In order to be confident that you have the right information you need to call and get the information from your insurance company and have them mail the medical policy to you so you have it in writing......I retired from BCBS of Florida and I can tell you, just because you talk to someone else that also has BCBS of Florida, unless that person has the exact same plan as you, their requirements will likely be different.....BCBS alone has hundreds of different plans.......Just call customer service and ask them for a copy of the bariatric medical policy that governs your specific plan.

Checking the bulletins is also a good idea but it's still better to call and ask for the policy that governs your specific plan......the bulletin will generally cover the "individual" plans the insurance company sells.......if you are covered under a Group policy that is self-insured the bulletin may not pertain to your policy.

Sorry quoted the wrong response....correct one is below. :)

Probably the best thing to do would be to call your insurance company and ask them to direct you to their complete policy about weight loss surgery. My insurance company mailed it out to me and it completely spells out the requirements and the weight amount (and in my case, the required amount to lose prior to surgery).

Ugh! I had no idea each policy would have different requirements even within the same insurer. I will be calling my insurance tomorrow!

I have United health care for tricare and it's so confusing even their reps didn't know how to explain the requirements it's so frustrating.

Update I saw my surgeon today he said they submit the weight that originally qualified you for the surgery also he said they don't make you get weight at the hospital I asked that because I read someone lost weight and surgery was canceled the day of the surgery but he said unless you go way under it won't affect it .

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
